The impulse to make things with one's hands is as basic and profound today as it has been throughout time. At first glance, the pieces in our second gallery show seem indebted to the traditions of Folk Art and Craft aesthetics. Upon closer examination, these objects begin to pulse with the kind of obsessive energy that comes from an artist's singular focus. Seemingly banal subjects like birds, American Presidents, or celebrities are infused with a more primal, visionary presence through each artist's inventive, and rigorous mastery of materials.
